Many students are familiar with the feeling of inadequacy. The sense of not being good enough. These feelings are completely normal, but they can also paralyze us or prevent us from doing the things we want if they become overwhelming.
In this workshop, we will explore how to understand the feeling of inadequacy and the experiences, thoughts, and emotions that arise when we feel inadequate. This includes the fear of being "exposed" as not good enough if we make mistakes during exams, in class, among friends, or at a student job.
We will explore the ways we habitually talk to ourselves – what we might call our inner "shoulds". We will look at how we act when we experience inadequacy. For instance, some may "overdo" things in an attempt to meet their own and others' expectations, while others may procrastinate or use avoidance strategies to escape the discomfort of uncertainty.
How can we address feelings of inadequacy? We will cover this in the workshop by exploring alternative strategies and inner "shoulds" that can provide more resilience and self-confidence.
All students in higher education who want to learn more about inadequacy and perfectionism.
The workshop is particularly relevant for those who do not feel good enough, are self-critical, and rarely feel satisfied with themselves and their efforts.
